An RPG is a role playing game on the Internet, where as an MMORPG Stands for a “Massively Multiplayer Online Role Playing Game” this means that it's a very popular RPG Game with lots of players all interacting with one another in a virtual world. The term MMORPG came about in 1997 and was invented by Richard Garriott who created Ultima Online.
Almost all RPG's involve a player choosing a character who they will be portrayed as in either a fantasy or realistic virtual world. They will be able to control many of the actions of the character. Normal RPG games have small numbers of players, however MMORPG's have huge numbers, and the game is normally part of a world that never closes, this means that even when the player isn't playing the game, the world will continue to evolve and change.
While many MMORPG games try to be different they all share some common characteristics. The themes for example are very common, as are the interaction, culture, and structure of the game. All of these games give you the ability to progress higher and higher throughout the game.
Most MMORPG games are based on fantasy worlds that people enjoy playing in. It can be compared to the look and feel of games like Dungeons and Dragons in the early days of role playing games.
It's expected that MMORPG games will continue to become more popular and as they do, new features will be added all the time.
